Thomas Boivin found himself atop the counts at the final break of the night after winning a massive pot against WPT Champions Club member Matthew Wantman in Level 8. Andy Frankenberger confirmed the action as the players went on break.
Wantman opened to 2,800 under the gun and action folded around to Thomas Boivin on the button, who called. Frankenberger called in the small blind, and the three went to a flop of with two clubs.
Action checked to Boivin, who bet 2,200 and Frankenberger folded. Then, Wantman check-raised to 12,000, Boivin three-bet to 28,000, Wantman four-bet to 52,000 Boivin five-bet shoved, and Wantman called all in.
Wantman showed for a set of sevens and Boivin tabled
for the flopped straight with additional outs to a straight flush. Wantman failed to improve to a full house on running
and Boivin’s straight remained best to scoop the largest pot of the night thus far.
