Mihai Niste found himself short stacked early on Day 4 with 14 players remaining and got all in preflop for his last eight big blinds (1,200,000 at 75,000-150,000) with Diamond AHeart Q under the gun. He received action from Rafael Rodriguez, who was UTG+1 with a dominating Club ADiamond K.

The flop came Club 10Diamond 5Diamond 4, no help to Niste, and he was two cards away from becoming the third elimination of the day. The turn came the Club K, which gave Rodriguez a pair of kings and left Niste needing a jack to make Broadway and stay alive.

Niste had multiple friends on the rail who called for a jack, and the dealer brought the Diamond J on the river to complete the backdoor straight and cause his rail to erupt.

Niste won two additional significant pots before reaching the final table of nine with a middling stack. He was not involved in any major pots as the field dropped from nine to six and finished the day with 8,650,000, just under 35 big blinds to take to the final six. Nonetheless, the jack on the river enabled Niste to reach the final six, and that’s why it’s our Gold Hand of the Day.
