After starting Day 3 with an around-average stack of 1,035,000, Dung Nguyen found himself down to 195,000 in the big blind during the first hour-long level of the day. A three-way all in transpired with Nguyen holding Heart KDiamond K and tripling against Mike Vanier’s Diamond AClub J and Mike Chiappetta’s Spade ADiamond 9. (Chiappetta lost the side pot and was eliminated on the hand.)

The triple up proved a catalyst for Nguyen’s day. Fortune continued to favor him as he built his stack and sat eighth in chips with 42 players left after four levels of play.

Three hours later, Nguyen reached into his luck box again to double twice as a short stack. The first time, his king-queen hit a queen on the river against ace-king, Moments later, he doubled his stack again with pocket eights against ace-seven, hitting an eight on the river after an ace came on the flop.

Nguyen finished Day 3 with 2,500,000, a 20-big-blind stack going into Day 4 with 16 players remaining. However, the run started when he tripled with two kings, and that’s why it’s our Gold Hand of the Day.
