Defending WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam champion Thijs Menco (pictured above left) is well-placed after Day 1a of this year’s event, bagging a healthy 146,400 after being the chip leader for most of the day.

David "Chino" Rheem

Menco took down last year’s event for €73,239 and was one of 103 players who took part in Day 1a today. The defending champion enjoyed a rocket start, and was soon up over 100,000, helped in part by the elimination of three-time WPT champion Chino Rheem (pictured above).

Tobias Peters

However, Rheem would rebuy and he himself is still in the hunt heading into Day 2 with 75,400. Another big name advancing is last season’s WPTDeepStacks Europe Player of the Year Tobias Peters (pictured above). Peters said that Holland Casino is his “favourite casino” to play in, and that certainly showed as he bagged up exactly 100,000.

Other players advancing to Day 2 include top Dutch pro Noah Boeken (75,700)(pictured above), along with Lester Rietweld (118,200), Raoul Refos (17,300), Marciano Yvel (30,100) and Paul van Oort (158,800). The chip leader is Fatih Aydin with 181,800. Aydin and the rest of those advancing to Day 2 will resume play at 2pm local time on Sunday 15th April.

There are two more chances for players to book their spots in Day 2 tomorrow. Day 1b kicks off at 2pm right here at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam, with the Turbo Day 1c starting at 10pm.
