Alex Foxen Keeps His Rhythm at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood

Nov 29, 2024

Alex Foxen is the No. 1 player in lifetime tournament earnings at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood and No. 20 on the overall top money list according to The Hendon Mob.

Alex Foxen only started coming down to play poker at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood seven years ago, cashing in a pair of season-ending WPT Main Tour events back in 2017.

But in just over seven years of playing tournaments at this venue, Foxen has accumulated $3,238,564 in total money earned, which is good enough to make him the No. 1 player across all of the tournaments ever played inside of Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.

Foxen, a WPT Champions Club member, has attended almost all of the major festivals at this casino over the last seven years, both those that are tied into the World Poker Tour and those that are independently run by Seminole Hard Rock. And while his best WPT Main Tour finish here is a 10th place finish in April 2016, the sheer volume of options has allowed Foxen to enjoy considerable success at buy-in levels ranging from $2,650 all the way up to $50,000.

Even as he and his wife, fellow tournament poker crusher and five-time WSOP bracelet winner Kristen Foxen, have drastically cut down their travel schedules in recent years, the trips to South Florida persisted for good reason.

“Well, I’d say the primary thing for me is just that it’s close,” said Foxen. “It’s a pretty quick direct flight from Vegas. It’s not a huge time zone shift. I’ve been trying to prioritize health a lot, and keeping a consistent circadian rhythm is a pretty significant part of that, from my understanding, so that’s been a big part of it. The fields are always really big here. Easy flight, nice facility. I like the staff, the dealers, everything is great.

“Having the $25Ks and the occasional $50k once or twice a year, makes the stops a lot more worth it to travel. And bringing our dog here was easy, too”

The Foxens’ dog, Riley, has featured prominently in many winner photos over the years with both Kristen and Alex. Back in January, Kristen, Alex and Riley took a photo celebrating a momentous occasion – Riley’s 17th birthday, which just happened to coincide with Alex winning a $25K High Roller at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.

Other than Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood events, the Foxens hadn’t ventured outside of Las Vegas for a poker tournament since last December, largely because of Riley. In sticking to Las Vegas and a couple of trips to Florida, they were able to maximize their time with their beloved dog over the last few months of his life.

“I had been primarily playing all the PokerGo events and the local stuff in Vegas,” said Foxen. “And a lot of that had to do with our dog,” said Foxen. “We had a dog that was aging, and he recently passed. So that was something that kind of kept us in one place, beyond the health goals and everything else. I wanted to spend as much time with him as I could, and he hated traveling. Taking him across the world was not realistic.”

While there was a definitive sadness over losing their longtime companion, Kristen and Alex slowly began to consider visiting some poker destinations that had previously been out of the question. Earlier this month, they decided to head to Monte Carlo for the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series there. Alex cashed a Triton event for the first time in five years, and locked down a $1.47 million payday by winning his first ever Triton title in a $53,000 buy-in event.

With three more Triton Super High Roller Series events recently announced for 2025, you can expect to see more of the Foxens in international events.

“I’ll definitely be doing more of that, traveling, in the near future now,” said Foxen. “We’ll be traveling a lot more, and especially after seeing the quality of that stop [in Monte Carlo], I definitely plan on not missing any of those in the future.”

For the moment, Alex is squarely focused on padding his all-time lead at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood. He and Kristen were in the field from the early levels on Day 1A of the WPT Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open Friday, with a $25K and a bevy of other options if this event doesn’t go quite right.

Alex is also keen on improving his standing on The Hendon Mob’s all-time money list, where he currently sits in 20th place. After action wraps up in South Florida, the Foxens will head further South to the Bahamas as their hunt for high roller action continues. And if you’ve paid much attention to Alex’s results over the last decade, it’s quite likely he won’t be stuck in 20th for very long.

That is, of course, as long as he’s able to find his way into the upcoming Triton $500K invitational.

“It’s maybe not quite the same size as the normal Triton stuff, but there’s some really big tournaments there, and it’s going to be great,” said Foxen. “I’m still working on finalizing a deal to, you know, get in the $500K, but it’s easier said than done. Unfortunately, there’s not, shockingly, a ton of recreational players looking to play a $500k buy-in. But I’m in talks with a few people, hopefully I’ll be able to play that one.”
