Andrew Wilson Takes Down WPT Seminole Rock 'N' Roll Poker Open ($796,200); Josh Kay Finishes as Runner-Up ($525,000)

Hand #95: Josh Kay opens from the button, making it 2.2 million to go, and Andrew Wilson puts in a three-bet of 7 million.

Kay Calls, bringing down the flop, and Wilson bets 6.5 million. The continuation bet is met with a shove of 24.3 million by Kay and Wilson snaps it off, putting Kay at risk.

Wilson is sitting well in front with his cowboys and is one runout away from taking down the event. The dealer burns and turns a , leaving Kay in need of some love or his run will come to an end. Unfortunately for Kay, lady luck stands him up on the river and he finishes as runner-up.

Andrew Wilson ships WPT Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open for $796,200, which includes his $10,400 WPT World Championship seat. He also earned a plaque on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup to go along with his victory.

“I’ve had a lot of consistent scores, but it’s mainly been online. In the live realm, I’ve started to do ok. It’s something that you always picture yourself doing. Maybe one day you can do it. It kind of feels like a pipe dream. So when it happens, it is quite surreal.” Wilson stated when asked about booking his largest live cash to date.

The newest WPT champion started heads-up with a major lead but Kay showed true resilience, managing to take the lead at one point. Wilson struck back quickly when he rivered a set of nines and Kay shoved the river with air. Wilson called for a double to move back in the driver’s seat, retaining the lead from that pot until the last very last hand.

“There were some points during that heads up where I had some doubts in my mind, especially because we got it all in four times,” Wilson said. “I’ve had some real near misses in the past live as well, so I was kinda like, here we go again. He was making it really tough.”

Wilson fended off three WPT champions en route to this victory, earning a spot amongst them on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup and when asked about this feat Wilson comments  “He’s one of the all-time greats of the game! There are so many great names on that trophy, and it is one of the most prestigious tournaments you can win. It still feels pretty surreal.”
